Bubba Watson and Jordan Spieth are tied for 1st after the third round of the Masters. Both players are using Titleist Pro V1x, shouldn't you be too?
This is Jordan Spieth's first time in the Masters. Only 3 golfers have won the Masters on their first try: Horton Smith (1934, the very first Masters), Gene Sarzen (1935), and Fuzzy Zoeller (1979). At 20 years old, Spieth could become the youngest winner of the Masters, since Tiger Woods won at 21.
I don’t agree with Matt Fitzpatrick (Titleist Pro V1x) that the PGA Tour doesn’t need playoffs, but I do think the current system needed to be changed. Fitzpatrick stated last week that he is not a fan of the FedEx playoffs, which he termed really weird. “I understand that playoffs in the United States are a very important aspect in other sports, but it’s obviously difficult to apply them to golf, given the format,” Fitzpatrick said prior to last week’s BMW Championship, which whittled the field from the top 50 players in FedExCup points to the top 30 for this week’s Tour Championship. The winner will collect $10 million.
It’s been a good year for Scottie Scheffler (Titleist Pro V1), but not a great year—if you judge it by his career. His win in the FedEx St. Jude Championship was only his second of the season. In recent years, he’s won several tournaments in a season, including six last year, and eight the year before, nine if you include the Olympics. And that’s the thing: we expect Scheffler to dominate. It was considered a slump that he had gone 16 tournaments without a win after opening the season with a victory.
It seems hard to believe that this year’s PGA Tour season is down to the final three events. The top-70 players who qualified for the FedEx St. Jude Championship will tee off Thursday and, unlike last year when he skipped the tournament, Rory McIlroy (TaylorMade TP5) is in the field. He is 12th overall in FedExCup points, so he could technically take a pass again this year. In fact, he could also skip next week’s BMW Championship and still qualify for the Tour Championship.
