Spin Doctors: Srixon’s Premium Golf Balls

blog-srixon-1.jpg

Did you catch Hideki Matsuyama’s approach shot on the par-4 second hole during Friday’s coverage of the PGA Championship? It landed 20 feet past the hole, safely in the middle of the green and seemingly was nothing special. Then it began to roll. And roll. The ball would continue to roll until it disappeared into the bottom of the cup. The crowd erupted and Matsuyama found himself climbing up the leaderboard. While many of us may dream of holing out for eagle in a major, most will have to resign themselves to simply watching such moments on TV. However, there is a way average Joes can get one step closer to competing like such superstars as Matsuyama, Graeme McDowell and Keegan Bradley: play the same ball. Enter the Srixon Z-Star and Z-Star XV.

Srixon has always found themselves at the forefront of innovation and the newest incarnation of the Z-Star series is no different. The SpinSkin™ coating is a 0.5mm layer applied to the already soft neo-urethane cover. This provides exceptional control and helps to increase interaction between the ball and clubface by up to 25%. That means better control over the spin you put on the golf ball, and better feel around the greens so you can do more of this:

If you’re more concerned about the bragging rights that come with smashing your drive past playing partners, fear not. Srixon’s new Speed Dimple™ technology combines with an Energetic Gradient Growth™ core to deliver incredible distance. The Z-Star XV combines all of these features with a slightly harder cover and higher core compression for those looking to squeeze every yard out of their golf ball. Just ask J.B. Holmes, who has been crushing the Srixon Z-Star an average of 313.1 yards; the second-longest average on Tour in 2016.

Beyond its premium lines, Srixon offers balls for golfers of all ability levels in the Q-Star and Soft Feel. The former is engineered with tour ball technology, providing a superior combination of distance, accuracy, greenside spin and durability for those golfers who demand premium performance in an all-ability ball. The latter is designed for golfers with swing speeds below 100 mph and provides terrific feel and distance from tee to green.

Want to do your best impression of your favorite PGA Tour pro? LostGolfBalls offers a variety of Srixon golf balls to help you spin it like Matsuyama. Find the best ball for you HERE.

Bridgestone Makes A Key Manufacturing Move

Bye bye Bridgestone. Shocking news that Bridgestone is closing its golf ball plant and test facility in Georgia after 36 years and shifting its manufacturing to Japan on June 30. The bulk of Bridgestone balls are manufactured in Japan anyway. As one of the top five golf ball manufacturing companies, Bridgestone got a huge lift when Tiger Woods became its top player. Chris Gotterup (Bridgestone Tour B X) is its top PGA Tour ambassador now. It will be interesting to see if Bridgestone makes a huge marketing push to tag along to the current popularity of Japanese men's and women's golf.

Korda Registers Impressive Win in the Chevron Championship

Woah, Nelly. That was quite an impressive performance by Nelly Korda (TaylorMade TP5x) in the Chevron Championship, scoring a five-shot victory, winning wire to wire and setting a LPGA majors record with a score of 14-under par after 36 holes. With the win, she vaulted into first place in the world rankings ahead of Jeeno Thitikul (Callaway Chrome Tour X), who surprisingly didn’t make the cut and continued the distinction of the greatest active player not to win a major. More on that later.

Jeeno, Nelly And Hannah Head Field For LPGA's First Major Of The Season

It’s the first LPGA Tour major of the season. Who do you think will win? It will be interesting to see who takes the ceremonial jump into the water at the 2026 Chevron Championship, which takes place this year at the Memorial Park Golf Course, site of the recent Texas Children’s Houston Open, following three years at Carlton Woods.
